When it comes to December, Christmas is the first thing that comes to mind.

Many people might be planning to host home parties with family, friends, or loved ones.

Christmas is also synonymous with enchanting illuminations and exclusive events.

This time, we introduce barrier-free Christmas date spots that can be enjoyed even in a wheelchair.

Why not enjoy a bright night with your partner amidst a snowy landscape?

1. Can you enjoy a Christmas date in a wheelchair or with a stroller?

I spend most of my daily life in a wheelchair.

When going out, I check the accessibility of public transportation, the presence of steps at the destination, and the availability of barrier-free restrooms before deciding where to go.

My biggest concern is not being able to enter the planned store. This is especially stressful when with friends or a partner, as it feels embarrassing.

You wouldn't want to experience such feelings on a date with someone special, right? In this article, we introduce date spots that eliminate such worries and allow you to enjoy your time with peace of mind.

One of the charms of a Christmas date is the illuminations. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery with your partner, take photos to capture memories, and fully enjoy the date even in a wheelchair.

At Ayumi, we also introduce nationwide date spots that can be enjoyed in a wheelchair. Be sure to check them out.

The first spot we introduce is "Tokyo German Village" in Sodegaura City, Chiba Prefecture.

It offers attractions for families, facilities like fishing ponds and golf courses, and sometimes even street performance shows.

Tokyo German Village is also famous for its seasonal flowers planted across its vast grounds. Many people enjoy strolling and taking photos in the flower fields.

Additionally, you can experience harvesting activities like mushroom picking and sweet potato digging, as well as interacting with dogs, making it a perfect spot for experiential dates.

Tokyo German Village offers barrier-free accommodations such as wheelchair rentals and diaper-changing stations in the first-aid room.

The park is very spacious, equivalent to 19 Tokyo Domes, so using a private car for transportation is recommended.

By presenting a disability certificate, the entrance fee is halved for the holder and one accompanying person, so don't forget to bring it.

In winter, the park transforms into a date spot with its illuminations.

The period is from November 1, 2025, to April 5, 2026.

Why not enjoy the illuminations set in nature from various locations?

Additionally, a drone show is held from November 29 to December 31, and a Christmas market from November 8 to January 12.

Additionally, "Island Fuji" features an observation deck that rises up to 45 meters, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the floral scenery. The observation deck has wheelchair spaces, allowing you to enjoy the date with your partner while staying in your wheelchair.

The illumination created by this flower theme park is held from October 18, 2025, to May 31, 2026.

Furthermore, in November 2025, it won the top prize at the "3rd International Illumination Award," earning the title of Japan's best.

2-6. Marunouchi Illumination (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)

The "Marunouchi Illumination," a winter tradition, is centered around the approximately 1.2 km Marunouchi Naka-dori connecting Tokyo Station to Yurakucho Station.

Celebrating its 24th year in 2025, this annual event decorates about 340 street trees with approximately 770,000 LED lights, transforming the business district into a magical light space.

Characterized by the elegant glow of champagne gold, it is popular as a romantic illumination with an adult atmosphere.

The event runs from November 13, 2025, to February 15, 2026, with lights on from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., extended to midnight in December.

Special performances are added during the Christmas season, creating a festive impression.

During the period, the Marunouchi Naka-dori hosts the Christmas market "Marunouchi Street Park 2025 Winter," where you can enjoy shopping and gourmet food from huts and food trucks.

Additionally, collaboration decorations with Disney works appear, enveloping the entire city in a more festive atmosphere!

2-7. Roppongi Hills Keyakizaka Illumination (Minato-ku, Tokyo)

Keyakizaka at Roppongi Hills is one of Tokyo's iconic illumination spots.

Approximately 150 zelkova trees line the 400-meter-long Keyakizaka Street, adorned with about 900,000 LED lights in winter.

The warm lights enveloping the street trees create a fantastical light corridor amidst an urban and sophisticated atmosphere, making it a must-see scene.

Held annually from early November to late December during the Christmas season, the 2025 event runs from November 4 to December 25.

In recent years, the theme "Snow & Blue" features a refined light presentation based on white and blue, inspired by snow and ice.

The sight of the zelkova trees lighting up all at once is breathtaking, allowing you to experience a tunnel of light as you walk along the slope.

The lights are on from around 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., allowing enjoyment after work or dinner.

The surrounding area is rich with commercial facilities and restaurants, making it a great place to visit for shopping and dining.

The sidewalks on Keyakizaka are well-maintained, making it relatively easy to navigate with wheelchairs, strollers, or baby carriages.

Roppongi Hills as a whole is designed with barrier-free access, equipped with barrier-free restrooms and elevators.

However, it can get crowded on weekends and evenings, so it's recommended to choose your visiting time wisely.

3. Preparing for a Christmas Date in a Wheelchair and Points to Note

3-1. Don't Forget Cold Weather Measures!

Illuminations are held at night, and temperatures drop significantly during the Christmas season.

Wheelchair users, who cannot move their bodies, may find it difficult to regulate their body temperature and risk getting cold. Cold fingers can make wheelchair operation difficult, making winter a formidable enemy for wheelchair users.

Therefore, don't neglect cold weather measures.

Having a scarf or lap blanket ready can be handy in case of emergencies.

For those who find it difficult to wear gloves, electronic hand warmers are also recommended. They are rechargeable and portable, and can be shared with your partner, making them perfect for a date.

Ensure you are well-prepared for the cold and enjoy your Christmas date.

3-2. Consider Wheelchair Charging and Maintenance

For electric wheelchair users, charging the wheelchair can be a source of anxiety.

If you have a simple electric wheelchair, it's reassuring to prepare a spare battery.

If direct charging is necessary, you may be allowed to charge at first-aid rooms or information centers.

To be prepared for any eventuality, it's recommended to inquire in advance if you have concerns about charging.

3-3. Research Access Information and Necessary Facilities

If you're visiting by private car, check the access information on the facility's website and research the availability and location of wheelchair-exclusive parking in advance.

If using public transportation, plan your route ahead of time.

Entering your destination in Google Maps and searching for routes will display public transportation routes and times, making it recommended.

If you're visiting for sightseeing using the Shinkansen, please refer to the following article.

4. Enjoy Illuminations Economically!

Most theme parks offer discounts on entrance fees with a disability certificate.

Additionally, discounts are available for public transportation and highway use, so if you have a disability certificate, be sure to use it to enjoy outings economically.

Traditionally, presenting the original disability certificate was required for discounts. Forgetting the certificate at home meant no discount, necessitating constant possession.

However, with the advent of the electronic disability certificate "Mirairo ID," discounts are possible by presenting the app. It's a very convenient app, especially for those who find it difficult to take out the certificate from their bag.

The following article provides a detailed explanation of Mirairo ID.
