This time, it's the fourth installment! We bring you a comprehensive guide to Barrier-Free Information Sites in the Tohoku Region.

Each site is packed with exciting information that makes you feel like you're on a journey just by visiting the page.

Whether you have travel plans or not, be sure to check out the sites of the regions you'd like to visit.

1. Iwate Travel - Iwate Prefecture Tourism Portal Site (Iwate)

"Iwate Travel" is a tourism portal site where you can search for tourist spots and event information in Iwate Prefecture, as well as transportation access and accommodation plans.

It is operated by the Iwate Tourism Association.

On the "Iwate Barrier-Free Tourism Information Center" page, you can view the barrier-free status of accommodations within the prefecture by area, making it convenient to compare facilities while searching for a place to stay.

Additionally, Iwate Prefecture has created the "Iwate Universal Design Electronic Map", which provides barrier-free information on public and commercial facilities within the prefecture.

Not only can you check the facilities you want to know about on the map, but you can also search for facilities based on the type of equipment, such as ostomate toilets and nursing spaces.

2. Akita Barrier-Free Tour Center (Akita)

The Akita Barrier-Free Tour Center is a consultation desk set up within the Akita Prefecture Tourism Federation to ensure that seniors and people with disabilities can enjoy free and spontaneous travel.

The center provides barrier-free information that staff have personally visited and investigated on a dedicated website, allowing you to find accommodations and tourist facilities that meet your needs, such as wheelchair-accessible toilets and private baths.

Additionally, to ensure that seniors, people with disabilities, and those traveling with small children can experience the charm of Akita, a guidebook featuring recommended model courses by region is available on the official Akita tourism site.

Furthermore, the Akita Barrier-Free Tour Center offers free wheelchair rentals, and introduces specialized businesses that provide welfare taxis (wheelchair and stretcher compatible), assistance services, and rental of welfare equipment at accommodations (paid, advance consultation required).

All consultations are free, and you can contact them via phone, email, fax, the inquiry form on their website, or visit the center (located in the Akita Prefectural Government Second Building) for a consultation.

They propose plans that suit the traveler's needs and physical condition, reducing the burden of preliminary research and allowing those who need assistance to enjoy travel more easily.
