Japan's Largest Theme Park: "Tokyo Disneyland"

Tokyo Disneyland is highly accessible. It is designed to be friendly for people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women, allowing them to enjoy attractions even in a wheelchair.

For more information on attractions, please refer to

.

There are also many ways to enjoy dining, shopping, parades, and more.

This time, we will introduce ways wheelchair users can enjoy Tokyo Disneyland beyond the attractions.

1. How to Enjoy Dining at Tokyo Disneyland in a Wheelchair

Tokyo Disneyland offers several accessible options for those with dietary restrictions.

One initiative is to offer meals tailored to different dietary needs.

Some individuals, due to disabilities, have difficulty swallowing or chewing and cannot eat regular meals. For them, there are restaurants that offer finely chopped or pureed meals.

Even if you come with family or friends, you don't have to eat separately. You can enjoy the same meal and share a magical moment together.

Additionally, for those with dietary restrictions, some restaurants allow you to bring your own meals, use a microwave, or heat ready-to-eat foods.

There are also vegetarian menus and allergy-friendly options, ensuring everyone can enjoy their meals.

2. Recommended Accessible Restaurants

Here are two recommended restaurants.

The first is "Eastside Cafe."

Inspired by early 20th-century America, it offers a luxurious and calm atmosphere where you can enjoy pasta.

The special set created for Tokyo Disney Resort's 40th anniversary includes four types of appetizers and pasta with shrimp and crab, allowing you to indulge in a luxurious time.

The second is "Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall."

You can enjoy dishes like roast chicken and flank steak, as well as a 40th-anniversary cake inspired by Tinker Bell.

The interior is themed after the castle from Alice in Wonderland. The detailed design, including sculptures and paintings, makes you feel like you've wandered into another world.

The restaurants introduced offer meal processing options. You can check restaurants that cater to dietary restrictions on the page below.

After dining, it's time for shopping. Many people enjoy wearing merchandise.

There are many exclusive items and souvenirs available only at Tokyo Disneyland.

There are 50 shops in total (as of January 2024). Here are some recommended shops.

First is "Grand Emporium."

Grand Emporium is a shop created by Mickey and friends, offering a wide variety of Mickey merchandise and wearable items.

As the largest merchandise shop in Tokyo Disneyland, it has almost everything you need, making it the perfect place to buy souvenirs after enjoying attractions and meals.

Next is "Glass Slipper."

As the name suggests, it is located inside Cinderella Castle, where you can purchase glass products.

In addition to Cinderella's glass slipper, there are various glass items, including glasses featuring Disney characters and rose glass domes from Beauty and the Beast.

Some products can have names or dates engraved on them right before your eyes, making them a delightful souvenir.

There are many other shops, so when you visit, be sure to explore them.

4. Tips for a Comfortable Experience at Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland offers services that are beneficial for wheelchair users. By utilizing the necessary services, you can alleviate physical concerns and have a more enjoyable day.

Here, we introduce services and systems available for wheelchair users.

4-1. How to Use Disability Certificates and Discount Systems

Cover of a Disability Certificate

At Tokyo Disneyland, you can purchase tickets at a discounted rate by presenting a disability certificate.

The following are applicable:

・Physical Disability Certificate
・Mental Disability Health and Welfare Certificate
・Rehabilitation Certificate (Love Hand, Green Hand)
・Atomic Bomb Survivor Certificate
・War Injury and Sickness Certificate
・Various Benefit Certificates for Using Disability Welfare Services

For safety reasons, those who need assistance with mobility must be accompanied by an able-bodied person. Therefore, the ticket discount applies to the individual and one accompanying person.

Original disability certificates are required for purchase, so please remember to bring them.

4-2. Touring Routes and Transportation Methods for Wheelchair Users at Tokyo Disneyland

The Disney Resort Line is convenient for moving around Tokyo Disneyland. There are four stations from JR Maihama Station to Tokyo DisneySea, making it easy to navigate the vast park.

There are slight gaps and steps at the stations and monorail, but you can request a temporary ramp from cast members. Wheelchair and stroller users can board safely, so please inform them if you wish to use it.

The free shuttle bus "Disney Resort Cruiser," connecting the park and hotels, is also accessible with a ramp. For those arriving by car, spacious parking spaces for people with disabilities are available; please inquire at the parking entrance.

Tokyo Disneyland has several accessible restrooms that are easy to use for wheelchair users. They feature wide spaces, ostomate-friendly toilets, and multifunctional seats, making them user-friendly for people with disabilities, the elderly, and families with small children.

You can check the locations of accessible restrooms in the information book.

4-3. How to Rent a Wheelchair, Fees, and Precautions

By applying at the window to the right of the main entrance, you can rent a wheelchair, electric cart, or electric wheelchair for assistance.

Standard wheelchairs are available for both children and adults, and both can be rented for 500 yen per day.

If you visit Tokyo DisneySea on the same day, you can rent again by presenting the rental certificate. However, if you take the wheelchair to the parking lot, you must declare it at the window.

Electric carts are available for 2,000 yen per day for those over 18 who have difficulty walking for long periods. The electric wheelchair for assistance, convenient on slopes, can be rented for 1,000 yen per day if there is an assistant who understands the operation.

4-4. Wheelchair Accessible Areas and Restrictions

Electric carts are not available for those who have consumed alcohol or medication that induces drowsiness. Like the electric wheelchair for assistance, they cannot be taken outside the park, but they can be used again on the same day if you re-enter.

The areas where standard wheelchairs can be taken are as follows:

・Tokyo Disneyland
・Tokyo DisneySea
・Guest Parking
・Bus and Taxi Terminal
・Bon Voyage
・Ikspiari
・Disney Resort Line
・Disney Ambassador Hotel
・Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta
