1. What is the Osaka Expo?

History of Expositions

97 years ago, in 1928, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) established the International Exposition Treaty. Since then, World Expositions have begun, and currently, 170 countries are members.

The first prestigious Japan Expo was held in Osaka in 1970 (EXPO '70) during Japan's period of rapid economic growth. After the 2005 Expo "Aichi Expo," the 2025 Osaka Expo will focus on "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."

Looking at the transitions, the 1970 Expo was economically focused, the 2005 Expo focused on love for the Earth, and the 2025 Expo focuses on the design of a life-centered future society. The flow from money to heart, and then to love for life, is evident.

You can view the contents of the Expo from the official Osaka Expo 2025 website.

2. Recommended Spots to Visit at the Osaka Expo

Pavilion Scenery

The first place to visit is the Japanese Pavilion, "Nipponkan"!

Experience the "organic worldview of life" that embodies the theme of Osaka Expo 2025, "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."

With the theme "Between Life and Life," you can feel the cycle of life: "Life eats life, dies, returns to the soil, and is reborn in a new form."

The universal services and support provided here include audio guides, barrier-free toilets, calm-down and cool-down spaces, mobility for wheelchair users, stroller access, assistance dog (guide dogs, service dogs, hearing dogs) accompaniment, and enjoyment for pregnant women and children, among others.

The location is in the East Gate Zone.

You can also view the official web magazine "Monthly Nipponkan" on the site for a deeper enjoyment of the Japanese Pavilion.

Another recommended spot is the "Grand Roof Ring." It is a symbolic architectural structure of Osaka Expo 2025, forming a ring-shaped space that surrounds the venue. Inside, you can see the venue, and outside, you can enjoy the beautiful sea view of the Seto Inland Sea.

(As of mid-April, the Expo Association announced that there was a leak in part of the Grand Roof Ring. They plan to investigate the cause and request the construction company to address it. This article will continue to update information.)

Experience the "Flying Car!" with an immersive experience (reservation required in advance)! The pavilion features a video display of a dedicated takeoff and landing area for flying cars, mixing visuals, sound, and floor vibrations.

The location of the flying car is in the Empowering Zone.

Note: If you are a wheelchair user, have a pacemaker, or use medical devices affected by "vibration" or "magnetism," or if you are a prosthetic limb user, please consult with the staff.

3. Are there barrier-free restaurants at the Osaka Expo?

The entire venue is barrier-free. For those with swallowing difficulties, the understanding and skills of the chef regarding such challenges are crucial.

First, it is recommended to inquire with the restaurant you're interested in, as this method is recommended by the Expo.

Additionally, choosing soft menu items, mashing them with a fork, or asking the kitchen to prepare them softer than usual are good options.
