Universal Studios Japan | USJ, one of Japan's premier theme parks, attracts numerous tourists not only from within the country but also from abroad.
Did you know that the park is designed to be enjoyable for wheelchair users and people with disabilities?
This time, we will introduce Universal Studios Japan | USJ's barrier-free information for wheelchair users and people with disabilities.
We hope this will be helpful when visiting with family or friends.
1. Latest Attraction Information at Universal Studios Japan | USJ Accessible by Wheelchair

The charm of Universal Studios Japan | USJ lies in its attractions based on globally popular works like 'Harry Potter' and the 'Mario Series,' allowing visitors to feel as if they've stepped into a movie or game.
However, many might think, "I can't enjoy the attractions in a wheelchair or electric wheelchair."
At Universal Studios Japan | USJ, attractions are broadly classified into three categories: those that can be used while remaining in a wheelchair, those that cannot be used in a wheelchair, and those that require a transfer to designated seats.
Attractions that can be enjoyed while remaining in a wheelchair are as follows:

- Sing On Tour
- Playing with Curious George™
- Shrek 4-D Adventure (currently closed)
- Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic™(currently closed)

2. Can Wheelchair Users Enjoy It? Experience the World of Mario in Popular Attractions!
One of the highlight areas at Universal Studios Japan | USJ is "Super Nintendo World™." This area consists of two zones: "Super Mario Land™," themed after the globally popular game 'Super Mario,' and "Donkey Kong Country™," themed after 'Donkey Kong,' which was newly added in 2024.
In "Super Mario Land™," question blocks and note blocks are set up, making it feel like you've jumped into the game world, with plenty of elements for both adults and children to enjoy.
The attractions in Super Mario Land™ include "Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge™" and "Yoshi's Adventure™".
These attractions can, of course, be enjoyed by wheelchair users.
"Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge™" is accessible if you can transfer to a designated seat.
However, since holding the handle at all times is a condition for use, those with upper limb disabilities may not be able to use it.
The other attraction, "Yoshi's Adventure™," can be enjoyed while remaining in a wheelchair.
You can ride on Yoshi's back and enjoy the world of Mario from above.
Enjoyment isn't limited to attractions alone.
At Universal Studios Japan | USJ, you can also enjoy exclusive Mario merchandise and the "Kinopio Café," where Toad prepares meals.
When you visit, be sure to get a "Power-Up Band." With the "Power-Up Band," you can play various missions within the area.
Advance through the missions and battle the final boss, Bowser Jr., allowing you to enjoy the story like Mario himself.
Additionally, by linking it with the Universal Studios Japan | USJ official app, you can save your play records and continue from where you left off on your next visit.
Why not enjoy a space where online and offline merge, having a great time with family and friends, even if you're a wheelchair user?
"Donkey Kong Country™" is an area filled with exciting features, making you feel like you've wandered into a real jungle. With banana motifs, Donkey Kong's house, and a giant vine bridge, there are many visual attractions, allowing you to enjoy just by walking around without using the attractions.
The main attraction, "Donkey Kong's Crazy Trolley™," allows you to move close to the boarding area while remaining in a wheelchair. However, when boarding the attraction itself, you need to transfer to the ride seat on your own, so depending on your physical condition, assistance from a companion may be necessary.
It may seem daunting at first glance, but there are testimonials from those who have successfully boarded in a wheelchair, stating that they could enjoy it comfortably in a barrier-free environment.
The video below shows a visit to Super Nintendo World™ in a wheelchair.

3-2. Information on Barrier-Free Toilets Accessible to Wheelchair Users
