1. What is Deai Kobo Co., Ltd.?

Located in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Deai Kobo Co., Ltd. was founded in 1979 and is now in its 43rd year.

The workshop specializes in creating welfare devices known as "assistive devices," such as wheelchairs and seating support systems, custom-made for each individual with physical disabilities.

They specialize in a technique called "seating," which involves supporting the body properly to maintain a good sitting posture, and they offer a wide range of services from ready-made products to custom-made solutions.

At Deai Kobo, their strength lies in their ability to meet diverse posture support needs with their technology and flexibility.

What makes Deai Kobo Co., Ltd. remarkable!

At Deai Kobo, not only do they have the technical ability to respond to individual needs through custom-made products, but the know-how they have cultivated is also a unique attraction.

They deliver their own products, such as seating and standing support systems developed based on user feedback and experience, nationwide through distributors.

Furthermore, to meet the diverse needs of users, they handle a wide range of products from domestic to international brands.

Assistive devices like wheelchairs and seating support systems can be purchased with reduced financial burden by utilizing welfare systems. Deai Kobo also supports the use of these systems.

Why they are committed to custom-made products

Even when grouped under the term "people with physical disabilities," the conditions and lifestyles vary greatly. At Deai Kobo, they repeatedly make fine adjustments to create one-of-a-kind wheelchairs and seating support systems tailored to each individual's body.

Additionally, they provide meticulous aftercare, including maintenance and adjustments to fit the body after delivery.

The reason for such dedication to custom-made products lies in the value of their work.

Customer needs vary greatly depending on physical conditions. While ready-made welfare equipment is becoming more comprehensive, it doesn't necessarily fit all users.

That's why the technology for custom-made products is crucial.

By responding carefully to these users and offering services that expand possibilities, Deai Kobo believes this is the value of their work.

2. Who is Yusuke Yaga, the representative?

Mr. Yaga is the second-generation leader of Deai Kobo, which was founded by his father. As a child, he even lived in the company office.

However, he wasn't always interested in wheelchairs. His dream at the time was to build rockets.

He studied mechanical engineering at a technical college and then joined a major machinery manufacturer, where he worked in mechanical design and traveled to overseas companies for after-sales service, enjoying a successful career.

During this time, his father invited him to join Deai Kobo.

Though he had just gotten married and was enjoying a fulfilling personal and professional life, he always thought he would eventually take over. After eight years in his job, he finally decided to resign.

Encouraged by his father to gain specialized knowledge, he spent four years studying occupational therapy at a university after resigning. He reflects on this time as being very fortunate.

After graduating, he joined Deai Kobo, marking the start of a new chapter in manufacturing for Mr. Yaga.

3. Passion for Manufacturing

Having worked with machinery at a major manufacturer, Mr. Yaga found the world of wheelchairs to be unknown.

However, he quickly found it rewarding.

Previously, he designed machines according to instructions and rarely felt the end-users' reactions.

In contrast, creating wheelchairs and seating support systems involves closely engaging with end-users. The joy and gratitude expressed by those who use the handmade products provide the greatest sense of fulfillment for the creators.

For Mr. Yaga, a guiding principle in his manufacturing is considering "what if it were for my own child."

This means contemplating whether the product is truly suitable for the user's body and lifestyle, what priorities he would have if he were in the position of a parent or family member, and whether there are other essential considerations from a professional standpoint.

For example, one role of a wheelchair is to maintain posture. While proper posture support provides stability and an improved appearance, it can also restrict movement or cause discomfort.

Since many users with severe disabilities cannot express discomfort, he is mindful of hidden risks that may not be immediately apparent.
