Many individuals with physical, developmental, or mental disabilities regularly take medication. Some might find themselves thinking, "I often forget to take my meds. I want to ensure I never miss a dose." If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

In this article, we introduce a new iPhone feature that helps prevent missed doses. If you're looking to avoid forgetting your medication, be sure to check it out.

1. iOS16's New Feature: Medication Management is Making Waves!

With the iOS16 update on September 13, 2022, Apple Inc. introduced new features to its iPhone, a smartphone designed and sold by the company.

Among these features, the "Medication Management Feature in the Health App" is gaining attention. It's a convenient and accessible new feature for those on medication.

On the day of the update, a long-term medication user tweeted about the iOS16 medication management feature, garnering over 7,500 retweets. (As of October 25, 2022)

2. What Does It Do?

The newly added accessibility feature in the Health app allows users to record the medications they are taking. You can manage a list of oral or topical medications and even output it as a PDF to share with your doctor.

The standout features are the medication reminder function and the ability to record the time you took your medication.

Previously, some people might have managed their medication schedule with a paper notebook. With this feature, you'll receive automatic notifications when it's time to take your medication, helping prevent missed doses. Additionally, you can review your medication records to see when you might have missed a dose.

Moreover, you can share data about your medication and health status with others via the Health app. This allows those around you to monitor and ensure you're taking your medication properly.

3. How to Register Your Medications

First, open the "Health" app on your iPhone and select "Browse" at the bottom right.

Select "Add Medication" and manually enter the name of the medication you are taking.

When you reach the "Select Medication Type" screen, choose the appropriate form (capsule, tablet, liquid, topical, cream, gel, etc.).

On the "Add Active Ingredient Amount (Dosage)" screen, select the active ingredient amount and unit.

On the next screen, "When do you take it?", set the frequency and time. You can also select the shape and color of the capsule to create an icon that represents your medication.

Once everything is set, you'll receive notifications to prevent missed doses. After taking your medication, be sure to check it off yourself.

4. In Conclusion

Some people struggle with remembering to take their medication. However, this accessible feature is likely to help many.

Not only does it help prevent missed doses, but it also allows you to share your medication status with important people.

Consider updating your iOS or even upgrading your iPhone to take advantage of this feature.
